Works of Growth & Recovery

Momentum's Annual

Works of Growth & Recovery Exhibition

Momentum hosts an annual art competition and exhibition featuring the work of artists with disabilities and mental health conditions in October. Artists throughout Central Iowa submit their artwork for consideration beginning in July. Artwork goes through a jury process by a local artist for entry into the exhibition.

This year’s exhibition will take place at Olson-Larsen Galleries on October 16th, 2025 and will be open to community members, artists, and Momentum supporters. Works of Growth & Recovery is a celebration of inclusivity and the power of healing through art.

2024 boasted a record number of artists showcased and over 75 individual pieces. We are excited to see what the 2025 show will bring!

Meet Our Juror

Photographer Amee Ellis explores a sense of place, wonder, and belonging in the Midwest landscape. Her black-and-white photographs celebrate the importance of connection, the joy of wandering, and a deeper understanding of the land and its rhythms. All of her images are created with film and old manual cameras, embracing a slow creative process and a meditative approach to collecting images.

Born in Owatonna, Minnesota, Ellis studied photography at Columbia College Chicago and occupational therapy at University of New Mexico. Her work has appeared in multiple solo and juried group exhibitions, including the Figge Art Museum and Cedar Rapids Museum of Art. Ellis’s photographs have been published in dsm Magazine, The Annals of Iowa, Fotofilmic JRNL, and The New Territory magazine, alongside the poetry and prose of the literature section. Her recent work explores relationships between people and the land. She lives in Des Moines, Iowa.
